Issachar and Zebulun Agreement
A Partnership That Shakes the Heavens Bringing Blessings in This World and the Next
In a world where everyone is busy building his own private life, the Torah presents an eternal model of partnership—lofty, deep, and Divine: Yissachar and Zevulun.
There were twelve tribes in Israel, yet two of them were engraved together for all generations: Yissachar, who toiled in Torah, and Zevulun, who supported him in livelihood. Zevulun did not merely “help” Yissachar—he purchased a share in his Torah. Not financial profit alone—but a full spiritual partnership.
“Rejoice, Zevulun, in your going out, and Yissachar, in your tents.”
Zevulun goes out to trade and provides sustenance, while Yissachar sits and learns—and they share in the reward of Torah. (Rashi, Sefer Devarim 33)
The Yissachar–Zevulun agreement is not charity and not a donation—it is a covenant. A contract (written or verbal) in which a person undertakes to support the Torah study of his fellow, and in return—the reward of that learning is divided between them. Even one who is not observant of mitzvot can merit the full reward, if he joins in truth and sincerity. Some poskim have written that the agreement should be written,
yet many hold that clear intent and mutual understanding by word of mouth is entirely sufficient. The partnership is not measured in legal terms, but in emunah and commitment.
The Yissachar–Zevulun agreement is a sacred covenant between a Jew who supports Torah learners and the avreichim who study. Just as Yissachar engaged in Torah and Zevulun supported him and merited an equal share in his reward, so too can you become partners in Torah study and merit immense abundance, blessing, and success in this world, and eternal reward in the World to Come.
What do you gain from this?
A. A real share in Torah study—truly as if you were learning yourself.
B. A segulah for abundant parnassah, success, and protection from harm.
C. A special blessing upon you and your family through your bond with those who learn Torah.
Join us in this sacred covenant, which will bring you abundance in this world and eternal merit in the World to Come.
